CARPENTER

Programme/ Opportunities after finishing education/ Curriculum/ Textbook Fund

It is a traditional Slovenian profession. Wood is a rewarding and pleasant material to work with, as it holds the warmth of the years when the tree grew and drew on the sun's energy. It can be used to create indispensable objects for our everyday lives. A carpenter who has developed a sense of precision, skilful hands, the ability to imagine space and a flair for the use of colour can produce not only useful but also aesthetic products that brighten up domestic and commercial spaces. In addition to the independent manufacture and assembly of various wood products (furniture, windows, doors, wooden stairs, etc.) from solid wood or panels, a joiner may also be involved in the restoration of old furniture, music-making, wood turning, carving, modelling.

The carpenter training programme is a three-year vocational training programme which offers:

-       Secondary vocational education for the profession of joiner/carpenter,

-       The national vocational qualification of woodworking machine operator.

Implementation

The training programme is provided in a school organisation with a collective learning agreement or an organisation with an individual learning agreement. The two forms of programme delivery are equivalent.

Completion

Education for this profession takes 3 years.

The training ends with a final examination in Slovenian, basic professional knowledge and professional theory, with practical work (product and a presentation).

 Opportunities after finishing education

After finishing school, further education or employment is possible. You will have many job opportunities. Carpenters are employed by woodworking companies and craftsmen.

When you decide to continue your education, you can choose between regular education in a vocational technical program (3 2) for a wood technician or education in work. Later, it is possible to continue studying at a higher level.
